Jefferson Lab will participate in a region-wide test tomorrow (June 23),
from 1:45-3:15 p.m., to significantly reduce the electricity it draws
from the power grid.

This program, also known as the Demand Response Program, is designed to
reduce stress on the electric grid during peak electric demand times in
the summer months. Jefferson Lab has participated in this program for a
number of years.

The electricity use load shedding will occur in several ways. The most
noticeable will likely be the reduction of HVAC operations during the
test period.

All major work centers at the lab are expected to participate in this
effort. Staff members are asked to minimize electric use in their work
areas. Email and pager messages will go out tomorrow to notify the lab
community of the electricity reduction test.

2016 Annual Test Timeline

-The annual test will occur on Thursday, June 23, from 1:45-3:15 p.m.

-12 p.m. noon: Notification will be sent out that the event will start
at 1:45 p.m.All staff and users will be asked to start securing loads.
This work should be completed by 1:30 p.m.

-1:45 p.m.: Test event starts

-Soon after 3:15 p.m.: Notification will be sent out that the event has
concluded, and authorized staff may re-energize secured loads and
commence planned work.

Please contact Jason Willoughby at ext. 5372 or Rusty Sprouse at ext.
7589 with any questions.

Information Pertinent to the June 23 Test

Likely the most noticeable impact of the test will be slightly warmer
space/area temperatures due to turning down/off HVAC systems.
Consequently slight temperature increases could occur in certain areas,
and to varying degrees. All HVAC systems will be restored to normal
operations immediately following completion of the test at 3:15
p.m.Reducing unnecessary lighting during the test will help to maintain
space temperatures and further reduce overall electricity consumption.

Also on June 23, the LN-1 transformer on the Accelerator Site will be
replaced. This work is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.While this work takes
place, electrical power to Building 87 will be reduced to generator
power only. The outage will last 4-6 hours.

test, see the full memo posted at:
