Representatives from the French Embassy in Washington and from the

will describe their policies fostering cooperation and the tools and
opportunities that enable the scientific collaborations between France
and the U.S.

Also, Jacques Martino, recently appointed director of the L'Institut
National de Physique Nucléaire et de Physique des Particles (IN2P3),
will talk about the future plans for IN2P3.

_Background:_ The Office for Science and Technology, as well as the
Office for Higher Education and the CNRS office support co-operative

and newsletters to the French science and higher education community.
Helpful tools, such as the Partner University Fund (PUF program), the
Chateaubriand fellowships for co-supervised Ph.D.s, and international
laboratories (UMI, LIA) of CNRS and other research institutes, will be
described.

IN2P3 is a French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique institute
created in 1971. Its purpose is to promote and unite research activities
in the various fields of physics.
