Dear All,
A couple of things I would like to point out:

) We should reach a consensus on the symbol for the tensor polarization or Alignment of the deuteron. There have been two or three meetings on the nomenclature for polarization variables and I think it is better to call it Azz than Pzz.

2) I do believe there is a negative value of the tensor polarization in solid deuteron targets. In the past several groups have used "hole-burning" techniques and reached values of ~ -30%.

3) It occurred tyo me while looking at Patrick Hautle's thesis on AFP that in the case of the deuteron it might allow another technique for tenso polarization. Unlike in the proton case, where one sweeps over the NMR line to cause the proton spin inversion, the deuteron goes in three steps, with the first one causes an accumulation in the m=0 level. Perhaps while we are looking at AFP for the proton we could spend some time looking at this. I'm sure someone else has thought of this before and has tried it, but I can't find anything in the literature after a cursory look.
Anyway some things to think about if we are going this route.

   Don
