Dear Marco,

Thanks for your big picture summary, which I think is accurate. Some comments on details: The veto does need to become less conceptual; we need an overall "baseline" design for the full detector. Dan and Elton: please add to / correct my comments. I think a key issue is going to be the physical size of BDX-DRIFT. NITPC simulation/data comparisons were a strong part of the proposal and Dan's talk. I think we are going need to start MC/data comparisons for the veto, and getting funds to build a 75-cm scale veto module will be important, maybe essential. Other key decisions for the veto include choice of medium (H2O/scint/Gd or B loaded or not) , and readout technology (pmt/SiPM). And thanks, Elton, for all the time you spent with Dan and me and the tours of various lab areas.

John

Subject: [BDXlist] BDX-DRIFT proposal to PAC47 update

Dear BDXers,
while waiting for the full report from PAC47 Committee, we anticipate some of the outcome of the BDX-DRIFT proposal presentation.
The presentation was very well accepted with positive comments from PAC members (especially readers). Despite the proposal has been 'Deferred'
since more details on the veto system are needed before it may get approved, discussions with the committee, public and off-line comments were all positive and encouraging to present a new proposal next year. Given the time line of the BDX FOA this delay is not affecting  any real action on BDX-DRIFT. We need to work this year to have a new proposal better shaped with all issues raised by the PAC fully answered.
My impressions, from Dan John, and Elton comments is quite positive (obviously a full approval would have been better!) and the positive feedback from the Lab management is a good sign to move forward.
Dan, John, Elton, in case I missed something in the big picture, please send your toughs around Cheers Marco
