BTeam meeting notes, Tue 6 Sep
Attendees: Jay Benesch, Ryan Bodenstein, Arne Freyberger, Michele Joyce, Reza Kazimi,
Geoff Krafft, Mike McCaughan, Todd Satogata, Mike Tiefenback, Yan Wang, Yuhong Zhang
(*) Yan Low Energy Injector Setup ATLis
- About half the meeting was reviewing/discussing Yan's low energy injector ATLis.
- There is not much point in going below ~17 MeV for the injector energy, as the
two-pass 100 kW BSY dump limit corresponds to 160 uA current there. The two-pass
current I, injector energy Einj, and dump power limit P are related by
I[uA] Einj[MeV] = 27.35 P[kW].
- ATLis task 11435: https://cebaf.jlab.org/atlis/task/11435
- Reza believes that 8h total is reasonable for this setup, as most of the work is
up front to restore the 22.5 MeV injector, and lower energies are achieved by
scaling magnets and turning off sections of RF.
- Michele/Tief suspect that we'll have to rephase cavities, but Reza/Yan don't
this will be necessary. This calculation should be done so we know what to expect.
- The consensus was to change the procedure somewhat to try to dead reckon in the
lowest energy (~17 MeV) first, with 20 MeV as a backup plan.
- Running without energy lock is feasible but would require hourly operator intervention
to adjust energy/autosteer. Michele says that reconfiguring energy locks is not
hard; she will develop a procedure (see action items).
- Tief: One remaining concern is tail development from kinetic M56 and how this is
treated in the injection chicane. Todd will follow up with injector group.
- Todd: we should not take additional setup risk by tuning into a non-standard
combiner geometry constraint.
(*) Risk Table discussion
- Ron Lauze showed a risk table at the 31 Aug operations review. Some items are
relevant to track during BTeam, including injector performance etc.
- Hall C Moller quads never had very good field maps, though they were improved by Jay
from original SLAC numbers. Jay will interface Moller quad measurements to HLA for
possible inclusion in CED/model.
- Magnet work: there will also be some comparison to RayTrace/orbit response
optics work in CASA by Yves/Ryan/Balsa/Rui. This verification overlaps with
several CASA tracking items.
- 0L07 spectrometer: Reza/Yan are developing a commissioning ATLis and will seek
input at the next BTeam meeting.
- Scrapers were removed last run; we thought we were running with them out but they
are still radiologically hot. We may need to have a plan to scrape beam tails
elsewhere if the scraper removal gives the halls a straight line of sight on a
momentum tail. This item still needs a name assigned.
- Geoff: Some concern about measuring M56 out of the injector. Todd/Jay note that
the chicane dispersion was quite good after Alex's optics improvements in
February. But we should still be sure it's clean.
- Geoff/Tief: The agile MO (FRAGMO?) is consistent with the time of arrival
scopes for path length, but not higher-pass MOMOD. Tief has delivered a
calibration plan that is being reviewed.
(*) Michele will forward a request for an HLA ATLis button to Theo L.
(*) Michele notes that the software group have decided not to integrate the C100
operations into high level apps for the upcoming run. Arne will follow up.
Action items:
(*) Low energy setup
- Injector group/Yan: iterate low energy setup procedure, check expected phase changes.
- Michele: develop a procedure for changing energy locks as the injector
group turn off cavities during setup.
- Jay: develop a LEMi procedure change for the energy locks.
- Jay/Todd: look at the harp setup and provide Michele/HLA with additional
harp scan parameters for these new optics.
- Todd/Injector group: Meet re kinetic M56, bunch length/match issues.
- Todd/Tief: discuss methods to adjust/check M12 on fly with 1S fopt.
(*) Risk table
- All: Assign names to several items (e.g. scrapers)
- Geoff/Todd: Present CASA table at next BTeam meeting
- Integrate risk table tracking with CASA item tracking
