Please pay attention tomorrow morning 9-11, and follow any directions through the RAVE notification system and other announcements. It would be best to avoid Hall A during the exercise period specifically. There is some chance that this will interfere with the CASA coffee meeting and we will be asked to muster in place per the usual emergency assembly process and map that is posted in the printer room.

SUBJECT: Reminder - Tomorrow - Labwide Emergency Management Exercise

Dear Colleagues,

As a reminder, an emergency management exercise requiring the full participation of lab personnel (including lab employees, scientific users, contractors, students, visitors, etc.) is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The exercise will affect Hall A directly and all other lab buildings and staff indirectly.

*It is important that both on-site and off-site lab personnel comply with the directions of the exercise that will be sent via email, desktop phone and cellphone via the RAVE system.*

The exercise will be conducted in partnership with the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) and Newport News Fire Department (NNFD). Safety officers, observers and evaluators from varying institutions will be present, wearing high-visibility vests. The goal of this exercise is to enhance the safety of our community and the response of its members, the NNPD and NNFD in the event of a similar, real-world event.

During the exercise, there will be audible alarms and loud voices with loud verbal commands from the police officers participating in the drill. No non-NNPD personnel will be touched, unless they agree to participate.

If any lab personnel would like to make arrangements to work remotely during this exercise, they are advised to coordinate those arrangements with their supervisors.

  * Where: Immediately impacts Hall A. Indirectly impacts the lab campus and those working remotely.
