[Clas12_high_luminosity] [EXTERNAL] Talk on the clas12 luminosity upgrade

Dear all,
I personally would not confuse the audience with the differences between run groups, experiments, and run group additions. As each individual experiment represents a unique physics topic, one could mention the number of experiments (= physics topics covered by CLAS12) and the approved beamtime for these.

My accounting is as follows:

  *
51 CLAS12 experiments were PAC approved including 4 experiments with a condition on target readiness
  *
These 51 experiments were awarded a total of 923 PAC days (when grouped into run groups) of which 346 days have been taken since Spring 2018; this number is significantly lower than the one Mariangela has in the slides because she was referring to the sum of all experiments without grouping
  *
Additional 213 PAC days for CLAS12 are pending on C2 approval or positron beam readiness
  *
5 PAC approved non-CLAS12 experiments were awarded 362 PAC days of which 93 have been taken (this does not need to be presented in a CLAS12-related talk)

When we do projections for the future, we should not expect 30 weeks/annum of physics running, 27 seems more realistic. Under these conditions, the approved Hall B running corresponds to 8.9 years of which are 6.1 years for CLAS12. Additional 2.3 years are pending for CLAS12.

The official JLab timeline includes a long shutdown from 2033 onward for the preparation of the positron beam.

Good luck Mariangela.

Best,
Patrick

Hi Mariangela,
It looks like a nice presentation except that many of your graphics are of poor quality, especially fuzzy drawings and in part also fuzzy text. Many of the graphs you use exist in much better quality.

A few specific suggestions:

sl 1: CLAS12 collaboration is not an official title. It is CLAS collaboration.
sl 2: Imax = 90mA, mA is usually used for milli Amps, but the limit is micro Amps.
sl 6: Is it really 3188 PAC days? At best we have 30 weeks of accelerator running per year, i.e. 15 PAC weeks or 105 PAC days. The 3188 PAC days of running requires 30.4 years of machine operation, bring us to the year 2048.
sl 8: On bullet 2 in Phase 1 you have (TCS, J/y production, should be J/psi).

I don't know when is your talk, but I suggest to put an effort into improving the quality of the slides.
Remember, you are speaking for a large international collaboration and for JLAB.

Best regards,
Volker
