[Clas12_rgh] [EXTERNAL] RGH meeting

Sorry for being late, everyone. As you could tell, I was having a lot of computer issues this morning.
For the PAC, my answer right now would be that we are considering other geometries for the field direction. These all have negative impacts on the target design and construction that we have to weigh against the possible advantages of directing the sheet of flame into two torus coils. For now, we are taking as conservative approach as possible.
Simply rotating the magnet 90 degrees and using a tall, thin vacuum chamber is a straightforward solution, but it might not fit inside the HTCC. I’ll try to look at it more closely before the PAC.
Rotating the target cryostat 30 degrees is more difficult from a structural point of view. The superconducting magnet (200 kg) is typically suspended from the top of the cryostat using thin-walled stainless tubes in order to reduce heat conduction. In this geometry the tubes are in *tension* only and do not experience any side loads which would cause them to buckle. We actually transported the Hall C polarized target using a swinging cradle, so that it always stayed in a vertical orientation when we drove it down the Hall C truck ramp. (We learned this from experience…) It’s not impossible, but it will require more engineering and time.
