Folks,
I am sending out my collected notes from today's CLAS12 NIM paper meeting.
Thanks to all who contributed to the lengthy but productive meeting. If you have
any questions or additions to this list, let me know.
Regards,
Daniel
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tentative timeline for work:
1) Final reviews to begin no later than Nov. 4 for MVT, HTCC, DC, DAQ, Trigger
2) Initial reviews to begin no later than Nov. 11 for RICH, FT, LTCC, Overview
3) All final reviews to begin before Thanksgiving break on Nov. 26
4) All reviews and all papers must be completed by Dec. 16
5) Paper submission to begin starting at the end of November
Notes on subsystem papers:
1) Beamline (Stepan):
- A few performance numbers have been to updated in the text
- Two figures have to be dealt with based on feedback from the review
- The specification table will be updated (possible drop dp/p spec)
- Fix misspelling of "Wien"
2) CND (Pierre):
- Move material from reconstruction section to reconstruction paper and update
the CND paper
- Prepare clusterization description (which will go into reconstruction paper)
- Consider replacing mass vs. beta plot with mass squared vs. momentum plot for
better visual presentation
3) RICH (Marco C.):
- Fig. preparation is in progress
- Discuss with Raffaella what part of the reconstruction material should be moved
to reconstruction paper and what to include in the RICH paper
- Focus is only on "KPP" level of performance reporting with results on PID from direct
light scheme only
4) MM (Francesco):
- Discuss with Raffaella about the discussion/mention of the FT-Trk design in the
FMT section
- Vertex resolution from MM (or CVT) is not yet final - make clear this is stated
- Reference the DAQ NIM paper instead of the CODA webpage
5) Magnets (Ruben):
- The quench protection section is being updated
- Volker will provide an upper limit on the radiation dose of the magnet
- Include discussion/information on helium boil off results - related to heat loss
- Discuss with Mac overlap on torus field mapping results in the DC paper
6) ECAL (Cole):
- Move material from reconstruction section to reconstruction paper and update
the ECAL paper
- Revisit the figures that are blurry or have excessively small font sizes
- Consider how to deal with the fact that the simulated neutron detection efficiency
does not agree with the data. How to proceed? Drop simulation prediction? Improve
analysis?
7) DAQ (Sergey):
- Replace Run Control figure (data rate was infinite in the screen capture)
- Replace CED picture
- Figure improvement work to continue as there are a number of blurry/grainy
figures with tiny/unreadable font sizes
8) Trigger (Sergey):
- Figure improvement work to continue as there are a number of blurry/grainy
figures with tiny/unreadable font sizes
- Update trigger efficiency plots to include average efficiency
9) SVT (Yuri):
- Revisit acknowledgement section (there were some folks who impacted the design
before Yuri joined the project)
10) LTCC (Mauri):
- Missing performance section at present
- Efficiency analysis is now in progress (quantify pion detection efficiency vs. momentum)
- Will analysis be done in time? What if the efficiency comes out very low (as hinted at
in some analysis studies by Harut)?
- Need a detected meeting on what performance results should be included in this paper
11) Simulation (Mauri):
- Remove simulation "rate" in Table 18.
12) DC (Mac):
- Discuss with Ruben overlap on torus field mapping results in the DC paper
- Discussion of layer redundancy - is it sufficient? Credit Bogdan N.
- Some figure work is need (a few missing figures)
- Check values of dp/p. Avoid stating 0.3%
13) FT (Raffaella):
- FT-Trk should be cross-referenced with the MM paper
- Include FT-Trk cosmic results for performance
- Writing of the performance section underway
- Give angular resolution specification (as it is in the spec table) and provide some
measure from data to compare against the spec
- Trigger discussion - talk with Sergey to ensure there is not direct overlap with
the trigger paper
- Show two photon mass plot that also shows the eta (?)
14) HTCC (Youri):
- Working on updating the draft based on initial review; this include some work on
the figures
- Move material from reconstruction section to reconstruction paper and update
the HTCC paper
15) FTOF (Daniel):
- Move material from reconstruction section to reconstruction paper and update
the FTOF paper
- Time resolutions quoted for p1a and p2 are not specifications, but values achieved
with TOF counters in CLAS. Revisit the text discussion to make this clearer
- Verify that DAQ, trigger, and simulation papers are fully cross referenced
16) CTOF (Daniel):
- Move material from reconstruction section to reconstruction paper and update
the CTOF paper
- Verify that DAQ, trigger, and simulation papers are fully cross referenced
17) Reconstruction (Veronique):
- Continue to check overlap with subsystem papers on reconstruction details; the plan
is to include most of the algorithm discussion in the reconstruction paper
- Check overlap with Overview NIM paper (Volker) to minimize repetition, to ensure
numbers agree, and to work out what will go in each paper
- Work on producing performance plots is still ongoing
- A small group of experts should be formed to review the reconstruction paper to
discuss what performance plots should be included (and how they should be produced)
- The plan is to include simulation plots for resolution (p, theta, phi) based on "pure"
Monte Carlo without background to show basic forward and central performance
- Check with DC NIM paper (Mac) to check on consistency of numbers/plots and
complementary of presentation
- Check with SVT (Yuri) and MM (Francesco) NIM papers to check on consistency of
of numbers/plots and complementarity of presentation
18) Overview (Volker):
- Check overlap with reconstruction NIM paper (Veronique) to minimize repetition, to
ensure numbers agree, and to work out what will go in each paper
- Working on finalizing performance plots (also looking to include different plots that
what are already included in subsystem papers). Volker is contacting the relevant
folks directly.
- Review the summary tables of performance specs to make sure the numbers of
what we want; PID specs should reflect the full PID system (not just FTOF or
CTOF); Check notation for FD azimuthal angle (1 mrad/sin theta); CD azimuthal
angle resolution (5 mrad)
- Subsystem folks should review the section on their subsystems to make sure that
there is full consistency between the overview paper and the subsystem papers
- Include plots/fits for forward and central tracking vertex reconstruction with an
empty target
- Review the forward tracking efficiency plot. Is this plot fully understandable
and appropriate to include?
- Consider moving the Performance section to just before the Conclusion section for
better flow of paper
- Include invariant mass plot (possible from phi to K+K-, or Lambda to p pi-) and
fit peak for resolution
