Dear all,
As you probably all know, Jefferson Lab has reduced its workforce last
week by 46 employees within a matter of a single day. Of these 46, eight
had been employed within the physics division. Hall B lost one senior
scientist, Dennis Weygand. One physicist, Alexandre Deur, was reassigned
to work in Hall D. The layoff of Dennis will have detrimental effects on
the offline computing/software group. The move of Alexandre to Hall D
will immediately affect the preparations of the PRAD experiment, for
which Alexandre was assigned as Hall B liaison. Other changes may have
lesser immediate effects**on Hall B and CLAS/CLAS12.
In order to manage the impact of these reductions in Hall B staff we
will need to redistribute responsibilities within the group. This is
particularly urgent for the offline/computing/software effort where we
also need to more aggressively go about recruiting collaborators to take
on specific software projects.
I will discuss these issues first within the Hall B group and NP
division management**next week and after that with the collaboration
leadership.
Volker Burkert
