All,

I received a report Friday that the link entitled "Enter CLAS Physics
Database (JLAB site)" on the page
http://clasweb.jlab.org/physicsdb/intro.html was generating server errors.

Investigating, I saw that an .htaccess file in the apps directory was
attempting to set an environment variable pointing to the location of some
perl libraries needed by the application. The setting of this environment
variable was forbidden in the apache configuration, but also, the
directories to which the variable pointed were not mounted on the new
server.

In particular, /home/. is not mounted on the new server. These libraries
were installed in /home/<someuser>/public_modules and
/home/<someuser>/vrml_modules. I checked the tops of these files and saw no
copyright notices, etc. I created a new directory --
/group/clas/www/clasweb/perl_modules . I copied the contents of the original
directories to this location. Then, I changed the apache config to allow the
.htaccess file to add environment variables, and edited the .htaccess file
to reflect this new location.

The system seems to be responding now, though I can't login so I can't
actually test the application. So. please let me know if problems remain. If
so, it's likely that someone (other than me J ) will need to look at the
code in more detail to resolve any remaining issues.

Another question is regarding my choice to create this new directory for
miscellaneous perl modules. Does anyone have any objection to this approach?
If so, what alternative would work for you guys. Let me know and I'll make
the necessary changes.

Regards,

Marty Wise
