[Clas_offline] Wikis On CLASWEB

All,

There are a lot of wikis on clasweb that are mostly pretty old. For a long
time, newer versions haven't really been possible because clasweb itself
(and apache/php) was so old. Now that the upgrade is complete, it opens the
option of installing more recent versions (still limited somewhat by php
until RHEL6). In the past couple of years, the Computer Center has developed
a more-or-less standard, centrally managed Wiki configuration that I'd like
to propose as the new standard for clasweb wikis. Initially, I'd like to
begin using the new configuration for all newly requested wikis, and later,
we can work through migration of the existing installations to the new
configuration.

New Configuration

. We can keep the existing paths, e.g. - http://clasweb/rungroups/
<http://clasweb/rungroups/%3cgroupname%3e/wiki> <groupname>/wiki, or not at
your discretion

. The new configuration uses your JLab CUE username/password to
login to the wikis

. Access controls can generally be like:

o Read can be granted to any (or all) of: Everyone, All JLab Users,
Members of a group, or specific users

o Write access can be granted to any or all of: All Jlab Users, Members of
a group, or specific users.

. Standard LaTeX extension for math equation editing is available

. The database for the wiki is a centrally managed system -
CNIDB.jlab.org

. Installation, basic configuration, maintenance of the software is
all handled by the Computer Center

. Upload file sizes, etc. set to reasonable limits (~50-100MB
typically)

. Upload file types can be the usual image file formats, but also
pdf, doc, docx, etc.

Does anyone have any general objections or concerns about this approach? Are
there any details of your existing configuration that might not be addressed
by the new one?

Thanks for your time,

Marty Wise
