Hi everyone,
I would like to propose canceling tomorrow's CPS meeting. We will have our
next meeting in 2-3 weeks. To give an overview of what has been happening
recently: our main focus areas has been to finalize the procurements for
the CPS and many of us are working on different aspects related to that.
Please see below an overview of the items that need to be procured. The
items are:
- *Borated poly *(~$25k)
- We can buy the borated polyflo (5% borated) as thin sheets such
that we can easily bend it as needed given the shape of the CPS
shielding.
Steve will need to make a shelf/container for the bottom part as the rest
of the CPS weight will sit on top of it
- *Cu absorber* (~$25k, but may increase)
- We can buy the Cu absorber once the design and test is complete,
expected later this FY. We do have concerns that the material costs have
gone quite a bit up here. But we are overall okay with the CPS
costs as we
have saved on expensive shielding by redoing the design so need less
additional shielding costs than originally projected.
- *Additional W/Cu inserts* ($100k-$150k)
- We need more W/Cu - inserts, machinable, so we can use it to
machine in a slot to surround the outgoing beam pipe
- *Additional tungsten bricks* ($0k-$100k)
- We may need up to 50 additional tungsten shielding blocks. We will
know once we have checked with the radiation model simulation.
- *Support structure* ($200k)
- Steve may need a support, pending on where we are with those
drawings, as we need to complete in FY23. In principle, we can
call the CPS
without support a complete capital equipment project, but since we are
still well within budget we can fold it in (if ready).
The bottom line is $450k including the support structure and about $250k
without it.
We hopefully soon have PRs for the borated poly (Bogdan), for the remaining
W bricks and/or W-Cu (Bogdan), and then we need PRs for the Cu absorber
(Steve) and pending where we are for the platform (Steve/Paulo).
Best wishes,
Tanja
