TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN ACCELERATOR PHYSICS

Idaho State University

The DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS and the IDAHO ACCELRATOR CENTER at Idaho State
University invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
accelerator physics at the Assistant Professor level beginning August
2010. In exceptional circumstances, a more senior level appointment
may be considered. This is a joint position in conjunction with the
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in
Newport News, Virginia. A Ph.D. degree in physics or a closely related
field is required. Candidates are expected to effectively teach a range
of physics classes including upper division accelerator physics courses,
and to pursue an active program of graduate advising. The successful
candidate will be expected to pursue research and funding in areas of
accelerator physics that are of mutual interest to the Idaho Accelerator
Center and Jefferson Lab. An initial project will involve the
development and testing of a prototype positron source at the Idaho
Accelerator Center, with the aim of investigating its implementation at
Jefferson Laboratory for use in fundamental nuclear and particle physics
research. Idaho State University has one of the largest university
accelerator research centers in the country. It also has two
laboratories for low-level radionuclide analysis for environmental
measurements and other activities. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees in Physics and Health Physics. Salary is competitive.
Located in the heart of the Northern Rockies, ISU is within a few hours
drive of Yellowstone, the Tetons, Sun Valley, world-class skiing
facilities in northern Utah, and numerous fishing, rafting and mountain
biking opportunities. Consideration of applications will begin
immediately and continue until the position is filled. Send a letter of
application, resume, official transcripts and three letters of
recommendation to:
