POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION
SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS AT JEFFERSON LABORATORY

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position with the
Experimental Nuclear Physics
Group. The position is for one year initially, with the possibility of
renewal for up to
three years upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. The primary
responsibility
of the successful candidate will be to participate in the design of two
new parity-violating
electron scattering projects, which are being developed to exploit the
large luminosity, high
energy electron beam that becomes available after the 12 GeV upgrade of
Jefferson Laboratory.
These experiments will search for physics beyond the Standard Model at
the TeV scale and
probe novel aspects of the QCD structure of the nucleon.

The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the
commissioning and data
taking of the approved 6 GeV parity-violating electron scattering
experiments in Hall A at
Jefferson Laboratory, in which our group plays a leadership role. These
experiments will test
the Standard Model, as well as low energy QCD, by probing the
strangeness content of the
nucleon and the neutron distribution inside nuclei with unprecedented
precision.

The successful candidate will have the flexibility to reside either at
Syracuse or at
Jefferson Laboratory and will have the opportunity to participate in
other ongoing research.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle
physics. Prior experience
with both software and hardware in accelerator-based experiments is
desirable. For full
consideration, applicants must complete a management application at
www.sujobopps.com (Job
Number #025796) and attach a cover letter, CV, and a list of
publications. Additionally,
please arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation to be
sent directly to Prof.
Paul A. Souder, Syracuse University, 201 Physics Bldg., Syracuse, NY
13244-1130.
