The Joint Quantum Institute ( http://jqi.umd.edu ) of the University of 
Maryland (UMD) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology 
(NIST), seeks a postdoctoral research associate to work on a novel 
approach to slow neutron detection using optical signatures of the 
3He(n,tp) reaction in a gas cell. For background information on this

with Ph.D. qualications in experimental atomic, optical or neutron 
physics are encouraged to apply. The appointment will be for one year, 
extendable for a second year, to start immediately, at a salary of $US 
50,000 and with the standard benefits of employment by the University of
