POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
EXPERIMENTAL MEDIUM ENERGY PHYSICS
CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY
The Carnegie Mellon University Experimental Medium Energy Physics
Group invites applications for two post-doctoral research positions,
renewable for up to three years. The starting date is negotiable.
The faculty members in our group are Gregg Franklin, Curtis Meyer,
Brian Quinn, and Reinhard Schumacher. The group usually supports
three post-docs and 4 to 7 graduate students. Our present activities
at Jefferson Lab include: hadron spectroscopy and photoproduction with
the CLAS spectrometer, several Hall A parity-violating electron
scattering experiments, and development work for the SBS spectrometer.
Curtis Meyer is the spokesperson of GlueX in Hall D, and the CMU group
is building the central drift chamber for GlueX. We are also
developing analysis software needed to extract signals for exotic
mesons.
Participation in more than one of these activities is expected, while
new initiatives, including those at other laboratories, are also
welcome. We seek candidates with strong experimental skills including
data analysis and preferably with hardware experience.
Candidates with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics, medium
energy, or high energy physics are encouraged to apply. Further
information about some of the group's activities can be found at
http://www-meg.phys.cmu.edu . Applicants should send a curriculum
vitae and summary of research interests, and arrange to have three
letters of recommendation sent. Contact Professor Reinhard
Schumacher, Physics Department, Carnegie Mellon University,
Pittsburgh, PA, 15213, or schumacher at cmu.edu. All applications
received by July 30 will receive full consideration, and review will
continue until the positions are filled. Carnegie Mellon is an
equal-opportunity, affirmative-action employer.
