Post Doctoral Research Fellow - Joint Appointment at Valparaiso
University (VU) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)
The Proton Spin Physics groups at VU and ANL invite outstanding
candidates to apply for a position as post-doctoral research fellow to
begin as soon as possible. The VU and ANL groups collaborate closely on
the spin-physics program of the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic
Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).
The successful candidate is expected to play a significant role in the
analysis of proton-proton collisions in the STAR detector, focusing on
the prompt-photon + jet channels to determine the gluon contribution to
the proton spin, as well as to contribute to other projects related to
the STAR spin-physics program.
The duration of the appointment will extend to Jan 2012, with the
possibility of renewal pending continued funding. The candidate is
expected to be located at Valparaiso University, and make regular visits
to ANL, a 1.5 hr. commute. The candidate will hold a Visiting Scientist
appointment at ANL.
Interested candidates should have obtained a Ph.D. in nuclear or high
energy physics. To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, a list of
publications, and a statement of research interests to either:
Dr. Robert Manweiler at Valparaiso University
(robert.manweiler at valpo.edu <mailto:robert.manweiler at valpo.edu>), or to
Dr. Hal Spinka at Argonne National Laboratory (hms at anl.gov
<mailto:hms at anl.gov>).
Please also arrange to have three letters of reference sent electronically.
Valparaiso University is a comprehensive university with a Lutheran
heritage that enrolls 4,000 students on its campus 55 miles southeast of
