Post-Doc Positions in the Subatomic Physics Group at Los Alamos National
Laboratory.
The Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory invites
applicants for post-doc positions in the PHENIX team of the Subatomic
Physics Group (P-25). The PHENIX team currently works primarily on RHIC
spin, cold nuclear matter and heavy ion physics, on the exploration of
heavy-ion physics topics at the LHC, and on nucleon structure and quark
energy loss physics at Fermilab (E906 Drell-Yan). The team also led the
construction of the two PHENIX muon trackers and is leading the upgrade
project to install a forward silicon vertex tracker (FVTX) into the PHENIX
detector. The successful candidate will participate in our spin and/or
heavy ion physics program, working on a combination of physics analysis
and hardware tasks.
Notes to Applicants: For full consideration, applicants should submit a
comprehensive resume, a cover letter describing their qualifications with
respect to all required and desired skills and three references. If invited
for an interview, candidates will be asked to make an oral presentation at
Los Alamos. A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Nuclear or Particle
physics. Experience in detector technologies commonly used in nuclear
physics experiments is highly desired. Demonstrated organizational
leadership, as evidenced by the ability to form, organize, administer,
and lead scientific projects.
Desired Skills: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in physics, preferably
nuclear or particle physics, and it must be less than 5 years since the
Ph.D. was granted. The post-doc term is for 2 years, with an option to
renew for a third year. Potential candidates should submit a resume and
three letters of reference to mbrooks at lanl.gov
