CNI Maintenance Period Set for April 16, 5-10 p.m.
The CNI group is planning a maintenance period on Tuesday, April 16. During this time, the Zimbra calendar and email system will be down for an upgrade (see Briefs for more detailed info). There will be an internet outage 5:30-6:30 p.m. During the outage, computer users will not be able to reach servers outside of JLab. The scratch file server will be down for about 15 minutes for patch installation and for a configuration update; it will be back up no later than 6 p.m. Updated Firefox and Thunderbird packages (17.0.5ESR) will be delivered to fix security issues, and Windows and Linux patches will also be delivered. Plan on rebooting your systems on the Wednesday or Thursday following maintenance to allow installation of these patches to be completed. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the maintenance period, contact the IT Helpdesk, x7155.

Sprint Texting and Direct Connect Training Session
Do you have questions about Sprint texting or direct connect services? A representative from Sprint will be onsite Thursday, April 11, from 10 a.m. until noon in CEBAF Center room F113 to answer questions, offer training and troubleshoot device problems. You will not need to attend the entire session for these services.

Education Seeks Projects for Summer Honors Interns
Seven outstanding high school students have been selected to participate in the lab's High School Summer Honors Program, which will be held at the lab June 24-August 2. The students are currently high school juniors and seniors and have expressed interest in pursuing scientific and technical careers. Lab scientists, engineers and other technical managers who are interested in serving as a mentor to high-achieving high school students and have a project, or number of projects, to be accomplished this summer, are asked to send a description of the work to be assigned or any questions you may have about the program to Brita Hampton, hampton at jlab.org, by May 1. The students will be required to develop a poster about their project and present it during a poster session.

JLab Tornado Drill Survey Results
On March 12, many members of the JLab community participated in the annual statewide Tornado Drill. Afterward, drill participants were asked to complete a short Tornado Preparedness and Response Awareness Survey. Thanks to the 94 non-supervisors and 36 supervisors of the Jefferson Lab community who completed the survey; the results are posted online here: https://www.jlab.org/memo/jefferson-lab-survey-results-march-12-tornado-drill

JLab Records and Information Management Fact of the Week
According to the National Archives and Records Administration, organizational charts are graphic illustrations providing a detailed description of the arrangement and administrative structure of the functional units of an agency. Organizational charts are considered permanent records. Do you have any old org charts? If so, contact Kim Kindrew at kindred at jlab.org.

RIM Trivia Question of the Week: Paper is an example of a "medium" for recorded information, as are flash drives, CDs and tapes. The earliest known form of writing is cuneiform, dating back to the 30th century BC. Upon what medium was cuneiform written? The first correct response received at kindrew at jlab.org wins a Starbucks gift card! (Winner will be notified no later than 5 p.m. Friday following publication of Weekly Briefs. Limit one gift card win per person.) Last week's answer and winner are listed in the full Briefs.

Tracking Thomas on Flickr
Harry Fanning and Brita Hampton correctly guessed the location for April 3. Honorable mentions go to Chris Wicker, Kelly Tremblay, Dick Owen and Becky Mosbrucker.
