CNI Maintenance on Tuesday, April 15, 5-7 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 15, the IT Division will be conducting a maintenance period, 5-7 p.m. During this maintenance period, all MIS applications will be down while updates are applied to the backend servers. All systems will be back up and running no later than 7 p.m. The login servers (login.jlab.org) will also be updated and a slight configuration change made. Updated versions of Firefox and Thunderbird will be released to all CUE desktop systems. Also, Windows and Linux patches will be released to all desktops and servers. This may cause intermittent outages to services, but all outages will be complete by 7 p.m. Also, plan on rebooting any desktop systems (Windows and Linux) on the Wednesday or Thursday following the maintenance day to complete patch installation. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk, x7155.

Office 2003 End of Support
Microsoft's support of Office 2003 ended on April 8, along with Windows XP. If you are still using Office 2003, plan now to update to a newer version of Office (2007 or 2010). There are tools available to assist with this upgrade. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk, helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

JLab Records and Information Management Fact of the Week
Jefferson Lab uses the Department of Energy Records Schedules and the General Records Schedules of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to assign retention and disposition of its records. Each person who is responsible for departmental records should be familiar with his or her particular records retention requirements. The schedules are available on the Jefferson Lab website: https://jlabdoc/docushare/dsweb/View/Collection-13816

RIM Not-So-Trivial Trivia Question of the Week
Congratulations to Chandra Gilchrist for correctly answering last week's question. Her name was randomly selected from 20 who gave the answer, "Arthur Andersen LLP." This week's question: According to the Department of Energy's R&D Records Schedule, raw data generally has a 10-year retention period. By contrast, this related type of data generally has a lengthier retention period, and may even be considered "permanent" if it relates to a highly significant discovery. All responses must be received at kindrew at jlab.org by noon on Friday, when a drawing will take place of all correct answers. One person will win a Starbucks gift card! (Winner will be notified via email no later than 5 p.m. Friday following publication. Limit one gift card win per person.)

Tracking Thomas at Jefferson Lab
Jonathan Trexler correctly guessed the location for April 2. Honorable mentions go to Doug Higinbotham, Anna Shabalina, Ryan Bodenstien, Silvia Miccolai, Mark Weihl, Sam Holben and Dick Owen. Little Thomas has been visiting all corners of the Jefferson Lab campus, but this week, he's off on Spring Break.

A better view of his last location is also available on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffersonlab/13746711955/
