Abstract:

Superconductors are commonly used at Jefferson Laboratory. The accelerator is famous
for its superconducting cavities and several large superconducting magnet are being
used in the different experimental halls. There have always been an ongoing research
on superconducting electronics which can greatly benefit the potential speed of the
devices taking advantage of the absence of resistivity. Another application of
superconductors is superconductor based detectors. Depending on the detector design
one could build highly sensitive device or very fast. I will go over those different
applications and summarize their current status and performances. I will also discuss
the possibility of developing such devices at Jefferson Laboratory: niobium processing
how the laboratory could benefit of the high rate capability and high resolution of
such detectors.
