The next annual School of Trigger International and Data Acquisition, nine
days of intensive theory and practical training in modern Trigger and Data
Acquisition techniques for experiments in High Energy, Nuclear, Plasma,
Detector and Astro-particle Physics, is open for applications (deadline
October 31, 2015).
The 7th International School of Trigger and Data Acquisition (ISOTDAQ) is
aimed at introducing MSc. and Ph.D. students and young post-docs in physics,
engineering or computing to the arts and crafts of triggering and acquiring
data for High Energy, Nuclear, Plasma, Detector and Astro-particle Physics
experiments.
The school will be held from January 25th to February 2nd 2016, at the
Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. It will provide an up-to-date
overview of trigger and data acquisition and practical experience with the
basic instruments and methodologies used, spanning from small experiments in
the lab to the gigantic LHC experiments. The main building blocks, as well
as the different solutions and architectures for different levels of
complexity will be presented.
The main topics include the basics of Data Acquisition (DAQ) programming
concepts (e.g. multi-threaded programming, data storage, networking, IO
programming, FPGA programming), hardware bus systems (VMEbus, PCI, ATCA),
Trigger Logic and Hardware (NIM). PC-based readout and trigger design will
also be covered with reviews of modern TDAQ systems from LHC and
fixed-target experiments.
Mornings will be devoted to lectures, presented mainly by physicists and
engineers actively working on complex TDAQ systems, and afternoons to
practical exercises in small groups with a dedicated tutor on a wide variety
of components of Trigger and DAQ systems.
