Jefferson Lab Roads Update: Lawrence Dr. Construction; Rattley Rd. Closure
Reconfiguration of the Lawrence Drive entrance to Jefferson Lab is scheduled for completion during the week of June 20. The final pavement layer to the entire length of Lawrence Dr. will occur later this summer. A notice will be sent out in advance of the final paving. On June 27, the contractor will start the rebuilding of Rattley Rd. This effort will continue through July 15 (weather pending) and involve closing the road for the entire time. IT Maintenance Scheduled for Tuesday, June 21
The IT Division is planning its monthly maintenance period on Tuesday, June 21, 5-10 p.m. During this time, the jlabl1-4 systems will be replaced with newer systems and fully patched. Also, the Jefferson Lab terminal servers will be replaced by newer, better-performing systems. Staff and users will still access the terminal servers by connecting to jlabts. Also, all MIS applications will be down while patches are applied to the central MIS database servers. All MIS applications will be back up by 10 p.m. Patches to core Common User Environment (CUE) software, such as Flash, will be released to all Windows desktops. Linux and Windows patches will also be released to all systems. Plan on rebooting your Linux or Windows desktop as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, June 24, to finalize the patch installations. If you have any questions or concerns about these maintenance items, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
Microsoft Office 2016 Availability
During the upcoming monthly maintenance period on Tuesday, June 21, the CNI group will release Office 2016 to the site. Once released, Windows desktop users can go to Add/Remove programs to install the software, as it will not be installed automatically on desktops. Note that the group will be installing Office 2016 on the central terminal servers (jlabts) and all new desktop builds. Also, the group will be installing it on the conference room machines as time allows . If you have any questions or concerns about the release of Office 2016, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
Run-A-Round T-shirt Special Orders are Here
The 2016 Jefferson Lab T-shirts are in and will be available for pickup on Friday and Monday, June 17 and 20, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the CEBAF Center atrium. When picking up your item or items, payment may be made in cash or checks (payable to JSA or Jefferson Lab). If paying in cash, be sure to bring the exact amount, if possible. The CEBAF Center receptionist has a copy of the order spreadsheet for anyone wishing to check on the amount owed. A few additional shirts were ordered, and they will be available for purchase after the special-orders pickup is finished.
Music Makers Sought

Warm Weather Brings out Wildlife, Insects and Poison Ivy
Jefferson Lab shares its grounds with an array of wild creatures, and recent construction has disturbed the natural habitat of many. Likewise, some of these critters can be disruptive to lab operations and dangerous if confronted – especially when they choose to enter indoor workspaces or undermine structures. For example, groundhogs dig holes in accelerator shielding. Occasionally, snakes are seen near buildings. Stinging insects and spiders can be present indoors and out. If you come across any wildlife, native poison plants or related circumstances that cause you concern, alert Mike Lewellen, x7169 or lewellen at jlab.org, and follow up by putting in an FM&L Work Request. If you are stung, bitten or are exposed to native poison plants, report to Occupational Medicine and then contact Lewellen to notify him of the location and conditions. For more information about wildlife, insects and native poison plants, see the full memo: https://www.jlab.org/memo/warm-weather-brings-out-wildlife-insects-poison-ivy
