May 24 Briefs Excerpts:

Hall D Update
One of the triannual GlueX Collaboration meetings took place on May 15-17. Several topics were discussed, including the physics results obtained with the Spring 2016 run, the preparations for the analysis of the Spring 2017 data, and new proposals to the Program Advisory Committee. The 2017 data will be processed at the Jefferson Lab computing center. It is expected that the data will be ready for physics analysis by mid-July.

Electric Vehicle Charging Not Allowed On-Site
Jefferson Lab does not have electric vehicle charging stations, and there are currently no plans to install them. JSA employees, Users and subcontractors may not charge personal vehicles on-site, as site power is to be used for authorized contract purposes only. Recharging a personal vehicle with power purchased with government funds is equivalent to theft. While some DOE contractors have installed recharging stations to promote the personal use of electric vehicles, the cost is borne by the contractor rather than the government. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, contact the Facilities Manager, Rusty Sprouse, at sprouse at jlab.org or x7589. For a list of nearby charging stations, see the link: https://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/electricity_locations.html

Run-A-Round Results and T-shirt Distribution and Ordering
Jefferson Lab’s 32nd annual Run-A-Round on May 17 featured nearly 550 registrants with 400 finishing the run/walk. See the full memo for a link to the run/walk results, award information, free T-shirt distribution and options for ordering merchandise featuring the 2017 winning design (orders due by June 2): https://www.jlab.org/memo/post-run-round-update-results-online-t-shirt-distribution-underway-special-orders-taken-through

JSA Minority/Female Undergraduate Research Assistantship Taking Nominations

The nomination deadline is Wednesday, May 31. For eligibility and nomination requirements, see the full posting: https://www.jlab.org/div_dept/admin/HR/research/

VPN Service Allows Remote Access to Jefferson Lab Systems
The Virtual Private Network, or VPN service, allows Jefferson Lab employees and users to securely access Jefferson Lab internal file servers and services when away from the lab. This service allows additional access to some systems that aren’t typically available from offsite. To use this service, you must have multi-factor authentication. To get started, visit this link from the computer you will use to access Jefferson Lab systems from offsite: https://vpn.jlab.org. To log in, select the type of MFA that you use (CryptoCard Token or Smartcard). Once connected, internal websites are accessed using the WebVPN service. From there, you can optionally download the AnyConnect VPN client, which will place your computer on an internal Jefferson Lab network. If you have any questions about this service, contact the IT Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Jefferson Lab Offers Teachers a Program that Brings Science Lessons to Life
The Jefferson Lab Science Activities for Teachers, or JSAT, program offers teachers the opportunity to develop useful classroom activities during the 2017-2018 school year. The after-school program is designed to increase teachers' knowledge of the physical sciences and to strengthen their teaching skills.
