ACCELERATOR
The CEBAF Accelerator is closing out the year strong, with excellent beam availability for Halls B, C and D. The fall run period will come to an end Thursday morning, when the accelerator ceases operations for the scheduled accelerator down. The next run period is scheduled to begin in late January, with start of beam restoration set for Jan. 22.

THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
Reliable calculations in lattice QCD must confront excited-state contamination and statistical precision, where attempts to reduce excited-state effects are often handled with various "smearing" algorithms. Distillation, a particularly powerful form of smearing, has seen extensive use in spectroscopy calculations, yet has not seen use in calculations of hadronic structure. Updated Laser Safety Sign Requirements
Soon, Jefferson Lab will begin updating laser safety posting signs to comply with new signage requirements enacted by the American National Standards Institute. The new guidelines set forth in ANSI Z136.1 Safe Use of Lasers, Revision 2014, recommend signage for Class 3B and Class 4 laser safety postings that features an orange "Warning" graphic. The signage for individual areas will be updated as old postings expire. Personal Dosimeter Changeout Begins Friday, Dec. 21
Jefferson Lab's semi-annual personal dosimeter changeout will take place the morning of Friday, Dec. 21. All radiation workers should place their dosimeter in their assigned dosimeter rack no later than 9 a.m. on Dec. 21. If you need to use your dosimeter during the changeout period, bring your dosimeter to the ESH&Q Building (Bldg. 52) room 9. If you are leaving the lab for an extended holiday break prior to changeout, be sure to put your dosimeter in its designated place in the rack before departing. Reminder: Energy-Saving Measures in Effect During Holiday Shutdown
During the holiday shutdown, which begins Friday, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. and extends through Jan. 1, energy-saving measures will be in effect in lab buildings. Temperatures in these buildings will be reduced, and certain equipment will be turned off. In addition, CEBAF Center will be accessible only through the main entrance. Affected buildings include:

  *   Technology and Engineering Development Bldg. (Bldg. 55)
  *   Test Lab Area G and High Bay (Bldg. 58)
  *   Machine Control Center (Bldg. 85)
  *   Bldg. 87
  *   Bldg. 89
  *   Counting House 2nd Floor (Bldg.97)
  *   Experimental Equipment Lab - except clean rooms (Bldg. 90)
  *   ESH&Q Building (Bldg. 52)
  *   CEBAF Center (Bldg. 12)

Tornado Warning Siren Test Set for Jan. 4
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. Individuals planning to be in the Central Materials Storage Area (where the siren is located) while the test is taking place must have with them and wear two layers of hearing protection.
