ACCELERATOR SCIENCE / EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
The CEBAF Accelerator and four experimental halls continued the spring run. On Friday , Accelerator Operations began a re-tune of the machine to correct optics issues that were limiting or preventing physics-quality, four-hall beam delivery. As expected, tuning and issues resolution continued over the weekend. Production beam delivery to Halls A, B and D was accomplished early Tuesday morning, and C began receiving beam later in the day, although work continues to increase beam current to Hall C.

THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
Deep neural networks are found to provide an efficient solution to parameter regression of lattice QCD gauge fields. This is relevant to a number of proposed methods to improve the efficiency of such calculations via multi-scale approaches. As discussed in a new paper , the high information content and complex symmetries inherent in lattice QCD datasets require custom neural network layers to be introduced and present opportunities for further development.

ESH&Q
Confined Spaces at Jefferson Lab
An area is considered a "confined space" when it is large enough to enter and perform work, has limited or restricted means for entry or exit, and is not intended to be continuously occupied. A ”permit-required confined space" (PRCS) is a confined space that has an additional hazard, such as: a hazardous atmosphere; a material that has the potential to engulf an entrant; or any other recognized safety or health hazard. Jefferson Lab has several PRCS areas that are posted with a DANGER sign. ES&H Manual Chapter 6160 Confined Space Program provides awareness of PRCS areas and establishes the minimum requirements necessary to prevent death or serious injury associated with entry.

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & LOGISTICS
Reminder: 2018 Property Validation Period Ends Feb. 28
Property Custodians must fill in any blank data fields in the Property Validation Inventory List, as well as correct any erroneous data in the other fields. It is especially important to make sure the location is correct; information in this field is frequently out of date. For more information on the Property Validation process, see the full memo .

COMPUTING
MacOS High Sierra Upgrade Enabled
All Jefferson Lab Macintosh systems may now be updated to the latest MacOS version, High Sierra. This is a major update and can take up to an hour, so if you intend to update your system, plan your work accordingly. Also, in case there are unexpected issues with the upgrade, plan on installing the upgrade during the IT Division's Help Desk hours to ensure issues can be addressed promptly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this upgrade, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Last Chance: Voluntary Separation Program Applications due Today
A Voluntary Separation Program enables the lab to optimize its talent mix and provide room for upward mobility and growth of the junior staff. Applications are due Feb. 14. For more information, see the full memo .

Science Education Seeks Projects for Summer Interns
Critical to the success of Jefferson Lab's college undergraduate summer internship programs are projects for the students, and mentors who can oversee one or more students as they carry out their work. Staff members interested in providing a project and mentoring are asked to notify Lisa Surles-Law by Feb. 28. For more details and contact information, see the full memo .

2018 Benefits Open Enrollment Ends Feb. 21
All JSA Regular and Term Employees have just one week left to review and, if necessary, modify benefits options. See the full memo for more information and links.

Reminder: Quark Café Customer Satisfaction Survey
Don't forget to fill out the anonymous customer survey, which you can access via the individualized link you received by email on Feb. 9. A reminder email will be sent to everyone who has not completed the survey before it closes on Friday , Feb. 16.

CONTACT
The JLab Weekly provides information on the status of safety, accelerator operations, experiments, reviews, upcoming activities and special events. Deadline for submission is every Tuesday by 10 a.m. Submit new items to: the Communications Office or contact Kandice Carter at x7263.
