DOE Blog: Lighting that STEM Spark
Jefferson Lab Director Stuart Henderson authored a blog posted on the DOE website about how we can spark interest in our young people for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Read the blog post here .
ACCELERATOR/EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
The CEBAF Accelerator ran well at the end of the week and over the weekend, delivering continuous wave beam to all four halls for much of the weekend. On Friday afternoon, the accelerator was brought down to repair a failed cooling fan, which allowed controlled access into all of the experimental halls for opportunistic tweaks. Over the weekend, a failed power supply deprived the halls of beam for a few hours, and beam current delivered to Hall C was limited to 45 microamps or less due to instabilities that popped up at higher currents. Following beam studies and radiofrequency (RF) recovery efforts earlier this week, Hall C recovered to a more-appreciated 50 microamps of beam current while running concurrently with Hall A. Accelerator Operations plans to continue beam delivery, per the schedule, over the next week .

Learning How to Be a Safety Leader
Simply knowing the safety rules, laws and procedures does not make you a safety leader: Your actions do. According to an article on Safeopedia , anyone can learn how to be a safety leader, because safety leaders don’t hold positions, they are people who others want to imitate. Three ways that you can become a safety leader are: changing your view of people toward the positive, changing how you engage in the safety conversation, and showing a willingness to build up the people around you to engender more safety leaders. To learn more about becoming a safety leader, see the link for the full article .
