ACCELERATOR SCIENCE / EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
Accelerator Operations, Experimental Nuclear Physics staff members and others achieved the milestone of delivering beam simultaneously to all four experimental halls at 8:04 p.m. on Friday , Jan. 12. Hours later, the accelerator capped the achievement with cw (continuous wave) beam to all four halls. The CEBAF Accelerator is scheduled to continue four-hall beam delivery over the next two weeks.

THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
A typical factorization formula for the production of a particle with small transverse momentum in hadron-hadron collisions is given by a convolution of two leading-twist, transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton densities. For practical applications at a given transverse momentum, one should estimate the momenta at which the power corrections to the TMD factorization formula, due to higher-twist effects, become essential. The new paper reports the first calculation of the power corrections to TMD factorization for Z -boson production and lepton-pair production in high-energy hadron-hadron collisions.

ESH&Q
Focus of Worker Safety Committee Changes with Start of the New Year
A new year provides an opportunity to review past efforts and accomplishments, and then based on goals, to make adjustments or reset priorities. After 10 years of serving Jefferson Lab, the Worker Safety Committee is doing just that by working with the safety wardens to make them “the front line” when it comes to addressing small safety issues or things that can be fixed with a work request. Read more about the changes here .

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mobile Mammography Unit Onsite Jan. 19
Several afternoon appointments are still available for the Chesapeake Regional Mobile Mammography Unit, which will be stationed in the ARC parking lot on Jan. 19, 2018. Mammography detects breast cancer, and The American Cancer Society recommends scheduling your first or baseline mammogram by age 40. This service is open to everyone, as personal health insurances will be billed. To make an appointment, call (757) 312-6400 or visit the website .

Flu Vaccines Still Available
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a severe influenza outbreak has spread to all the U.S. states except Hawaii. Occupational Medicine has flu vaccines available and is accepting appointments from Jefferson Lab staff for vaccinations. For more information and to schedule an appointment, see the full memo .

Postdoc Prize Submissions Due Jan. 22
Calling all physics postdoctoral candidates: Now is the time to apply for the 2018 JSA Postdoctoral Prize, a $10,000 grant funded by Jefferson Science Associates, to support outstanding theoretical or experimental research work associated with the science program at Jefferson Lab. This grant is supported by the JSA Initiatives Fund Program. The deadline for 2018 submissions is 5 p.m. on Jan. 22. For more information, see the full memo .

DOE Launches Photo Contest
DOE employees and Jefferson Lab staff are invited to submit photos to the Department of Energy Photo Contest. Each quarter, a new photo will be picked for display in the Secretary’s reception area and in a gallery on the DOE website. Photos submitted should highlight the Department’s efforts to advance America’s energy independence and innovation or show how energy is found in daily life. Submissions may be emailed to PhotoContest at hq.DOE.Gov . The next quarterly deadline is March 15 .

CONTACT
The JLab Weekly provides information on the status of safety, accelerator operations, experiments, reviews, upcoming activities and special events. Deadline for submission is every Tuesday by 10 a.m. Submit new items to the Communications Office or contact Kandice Carter at x7263.
