ACCELERATOR/EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
Work continued toward bringing the CEBAF Accelerator back online for a strong finish to its spring run. On Saturday , the pair of replacement transformers for the Central Helium Liquefier (CHL1) arrived on-site. The first transformer has been installed, and the custom work needed to mate it to Jefferson Lab systems is complete. The transformer will be powered up and run (no load) overnight. Work will begin on the second transformer Friday . Assuming all goes well and the weather cooperates, Accelerator Operations plans to return to a 24/7 schedule next week. In parallel with the transformer swaps, work continues on many different systems to make the most of the downtime. Beam has been restored in the Injector to optimize the front end for simultaneous high-current running to Halls A and C. Additionally, further radiofrequency recovery of cavities is underway to improve overall gradient (energy) in the machine.

THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
A new paper shows how a recently proposed relativistic three-particle quantization condition can be used to study three-body systems via lattice QCD. The work demonstrates numerically how future finite-volume spectra obtained in lattice QCD may be related to infinite-volume scattering amplitudes. These techniques are tested by numerically reproducing known analytic results for the inverse-length expansion of the threshold state, the volume dependence of three-particle bound-state energies, and the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for these bound states .

ESH&Q
Virginia to Hold Annual Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 20
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management will conduct its annual statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 20 , 2018, at 9:45 a.m. While Jefferson Lab’s Tornado Siren will sound as a system test; no lab-wide response is planned. The statewide Tornado Drill is an opportunity to prepare Virginians for tornado emergencies and to test public warning systems. To read more, see the full memo .

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & LOGISTICS
Incomplete Validations and Filing Missing Item Reports
Property Management is seeking help from Property Custodians in closing out incomplete validations and filing missing item reports. The annual Jefferson Lab Property Validation period ended on Feb. 28, and a number of individuals have not yet completed their inventory checks. Additionally, you may need to file a Missing Item Report if you have not completed your validation because an item cannot be located. For more information and helpful links, see the full memo .

COMPUTING
IT Division Maintenance Period Set for 5 p.m. on March 20
The IT Division is planning a maintenance period for 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 . During this time, network switches will be upgraded in the Technology and Engineering Development Building, which will cause phones, desktops and wireless access to be down. The outage will start at around 5:30 p.m., and everything should be back online by 6:30 p.m. Updates and patches to centrally managed Common User Environment software, such as Windows, Linux and Firefox, will be released to all managed desktops and servers. There will be intermittent outages of central services, such as webservers and login servers, while the underlying servers are rebooted to finalize patch installation. Plan on rebooting your Windows or Linux desktop by Friday, March 23 , to finalize patch installations. If you have any questions or concerns about this maintenance period, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Network Outage Planned for SSC Building on March 15
On Thursday, March 15 , starting at 5:30 p.m., the IT Division Network group will be replacing/upgrading network devices in the east side of the Support Service Center. During this outage, all desktops, phones, and wireless access will be offline. All networking will be restored no later than 7:30 p.m. Plan your work accordingly. If you have any questions or concerns about this outage, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
