ACCELERATOR SCIENCE / EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
Program Advisory Committee Proposals Are Due June 4
The deadline for submission of proposals and updates for PAC46 is 8 a.m. EDT on Monday, June 4 , 2018. The PAC will judge the technical and scientific aspects of submitted proposals and provide recommendations to laboratory management. New proposals will be recommended for approval only if they represent high-quality physics within the range of scientific importance represented by the previously approved 12 GeV proposals. PAC46 will be held during the week of July 16 . For more information, see the PAC website .

THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS
Recently, it has been proposed that parton distribution functions may be accessed directly from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, Quantum Chromodynamics, by evaluating matrix elements of spatially displaced operators using lattice QCD. A new study takes the first steps to understand the size of the artifacts associated with the fact that they are necessarily performed in a finite spacetime. These matrix elements are found to suffer from larger than expected finite-volume artifacts due to their non-locality.

ESH&Q
Flood Messaging for Communities Dealing With Heavy Rain
With widespread flood warnings impacting large portions of the Commonwealth, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is offering flood information to help citizens prepare for the threat of flood in their hometowns. The first step in preparing for potential flooding is to recognize the weather terminology and be prepared to respond appropriately to each condition. These include:

    * Flood Watch or Flash Flood Watch: There is an increasing possibility of flooding or a flash flood in your area.
    * Flood Warning: Flooding is occurring or will likely occur very soon. If emergency officials advise you to evacuate, do so immediately.
    * Flash Flood Warning: Flash flooding is occurring. Seek higher ground immediately – don’t wait for official instructions.
For more information, see the VDEM website .

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & LOGISTICS
Reminder: HVAC Outage in CEBAF Center Wings A & C over Memorial Day Weekend
The rooftop HVAC units that service CEBAF Center Wings A and C will be replaced during the Memorial Day weekend. The units will be turned off May 24 at 3:30 p.m. and will remain off until Tuesday, May 29 at 7 a.m. There will also be no power in CEBAF Center Wings A, B or C on Saturday , starting at 6 a.m. For more information, see the full memo .
ENGINEERING
SAF130A Pressure System Awareness Training Offered
A Pressure System Awareness Training Class has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 19 , at 1:30 p.m. in CEBAF Center, room F224-225. The course will cover basic considerations and provide insight into the required process for the design, fabrication, testing, inspection, maintenance, repair and operation of pressure systems. It will be led by Engineering Division Manager, Will Oren. This course may be required training for some staff, but is open to all staff with an interest in this information. Individuals who might benefit from the training include operators and supervisors of technicians working on pressure systems. To attend, register for this class in Jefferson Lab's Learning Management System .

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Open House Volunteer T-Shirts Free to Good Home
There are very few remaining T-shirts left over from the open house. If you’d like one for yourself, a family member or a friend, see a staff member in Event Services. These shirts will given away on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are currently a range of sizes available. For more information, contact eventservices at jlab.org .

2018 Jefferson Lab T-shirts Still Available
A limited number of official lab T-shirts, which were unveiled at the Run-A-Round, are still available for sale at the CEBAF Center Front Desk for $7. Remaining sizes are limited to XL and up.

"Inclusion Insights" Lunch & Learn Sessions Offered
Inclusion Insights is a powerful video presentation featuring Steve Robbins, the innovative speaker/socio-scientist storyteller who coined the phrase “Unintentional Intolerance.” Robbins has a resonating style and unique framework for addressing diversity and inclusion. Did we mention he's also very funny? Members of the Diversity & Inclusion Council will facilitate three small group lunchtime sessions that will feature short video presentations by Robbins and group discussion. Advance signup is encouraged but not required. Sign up in the Learning Management System for one of the upcoming Inclusion Insights Lunch & Learn sessions, which will be offered May 30 , June 6 and June 20 . Sessions will be held in CEBAF Center room F226, 11:30 a.m.-1p.m. Bring your own lunch and come ready to learn.

Where in the World... Are You From?
Help build our world map! The Jefferson Lab community is comprised of people from a plethora of places. In celebration of World Culture Day, the Diversity & Inclusion Council is building a visual map that depicts our collective hometowns. All members of the Jefferson Lab community are invited to stop by the CEBAF Center Lobby May 21 - June 1 to place a pin on the world map. There will also be notecards present for you to share a fun fact about your culture, region or hometown for display with the map. No time to stop by? Email your fact to Tara Tyndall . If you have any questions about Jefferson Lab's World Culture Day activity, contact dcouncil at jlab.org .

CONTACT
The JLab Weekly provides information on the status of safety, accelerator operations, experiments, reviews, upcoming activities and special events. Deadline for submission is every Tuesday by 10 a.m. Submit new items to: the Communications Office or contact Kandice Carter at x7263.
