Announcement of the First Circular of the HiX2019 International
Workshop,//on behalf of the Organizing Committee:

Dear Colleagues,

This is the first circular about the 5th International Workshop on
Nucleon Structure at Large Bjorken /x /(HiX2019), which will take place
in Kolymbari, on the Island of Crete, Greece, on August 16-21, 2019.
Kolymbari is close to the city of Chania and its international
airport. The venue will be the Orthodox Academy of Crete. This meeting
will continue a series of workshops held previously in Philadelphia, USA
(2000), Marseille, France (2004), Newport News, USA (2010), and
Frascati, Italy (2014).

While a tremendous amount of knowledge about the quark and gluon
structure of the nucleon and nuclei has been accumulated in the four
decades since the development of Quantum Chromodynamics, significant
gaps remain, particularly in the valence quark region where the parton
momentum fraction x is large.  With the expectation of new data from the
Jefferson Lab 12 GeV Science Program, as well as from collider and
neutrino experiments, it is timely to review advances in our
understanding of nucleon structure at high /x /and assess the possible
impact of the new data.  The workshop will discuss new theoretical ideas
and suggestions for additional studies at present and future facilities,
along with implications for related fields.

The topics to be addressed at the workshop will include:

  *

Parton distribution functions at large /x/

  *

    Spin structure of the nucleon

  *

    Transverse momentum distributions

  *

Nuclear medium modifications of parton distributions

  *

    Quark-hadron duality and higher twists

  *

Lattice QCD and low energy models

  *

Implications for new physics searches and related fields

  *

Large-/x/ Physics at the Electron-Ion Collider and future facilities

Further information about the workshop will be available in a future
communication after the establishment of its International Advisory
Committee and the creation of a website. Please feel free to forward this
announcement to your collaborators and other interested colleagues.

We look forward to seeing you at HiX2019 in Crete next summer!

Sincerely,

The HiX2019 Organizing Committee:Alberto Accardi (Hampton), George
Fanourakis (NCSR Demokritos), Alessandra Fantoni (INFN Frascati), Mina
Katramatou (Kent State), Cynthia Keppel (JLab), Zein-Eddine Meziani
(Argonne/Temple), and Makis Petratos (Kent State).
