EIC Center at Jefferson Lab
Announces Fellowship Awards
The Electron-Ion Collider Center has announced the winners of four EIC fellowships (https://www.jlab.org/news/releases/eic-center-jefferson-lab-announces-fellowship-awards-0) to pursue research related to a proposed electron-ion collider over the next year.

NEW DIRECTOR OF ACCELERATOR OPERATIONS - CAMILLE GINSBURG
After an extensive search, Camille Ginsburg has been selected to serve as the new director of accelerator operations. Ginsburg will oversee the day-to-day CEBAF operations with the overall mission to develop, implement and optimize reliability and performance. Additionally, she will provide strategic and tactical leadership of CEBAF operations in all technical areas, as well as oversee other on-site accelerators. Ginsburg will become an integral part of the senior management team for the Accelerator Division. She will assume the role Monday, Aug. 19. QUARK FLAVOR ASYMMETRIES FROM A NONLOCAL CHIRAL EFFECTIVE THEORY
A collaboration of researchers from Jefferson Lab, North Carolina State University, Adelaide University and IHEP, Beijing completed a comprehensive phenomenological analysis (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__arxiv.org_abs_1907.08551&d=DwIFaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=huYtXgHboamQCcudwMT5oQ&m=euQUXZZqEHh1SkefZ2AOwRXrEuQDnlH9QPB7PgfEYK4&s=KZ5mPePtrhunFxSAqTtuXu1oexWiK3KjxtELpQfVGVg&e= ) of quark flavor asymmetries in the proton, derived from a nonlocal realization of SU(3) relativistic chiral effective theory. The magnitude of the anti-down and anti-up asymmetry was found to be compatible with that extracted from the earlier Fermilab E866 Drell-Yan measurement, with no indication of a sign change at large values of the parton momentum fraction, x. This behavior will be soon tested with new data from the Fermilab SeaQuest Drell-Yan experiment at higher x values.

BEAT THE HEAT
The recent high temperatures in Hampton Roads puts workers at an increased risk of heat illness. There are several types heat-associated illness which range in severity. Early warning signs of heat illness include headache, dizziness, confusion and disorientation, excessive sweating or flushing, fatigue, chills or goose bumps, nausea and vomiting.
Here are a few tips to prevent heat illness:
- Hold shorter work rotations with lighter equipment.
- Follow any work-rest regimens issued by ESH&Q.
- Hydrate with cool beverages before, during and after work sessions. Ice cold water may be too cold and actually cause harm.
- Wear light-colored, light-weight and loose clothing.
------------------------------------------------------------
COMPUTER USER AUDIT
On Monday, Aug. 26, the IT Division will begin a computer user account audit. All supervisors and sponsors of staff, Users and contractors with Jefferson Lab computer accounts are required to review and re-authorize accounts. This audit is a critical part of maintaining an appropriate level of cyber security at the lab. Once the audit begins, the IT Division will send emails to supervisors and sponsors with instructions on how to complete their audit. The audit must be completed by close of business Friday, Sept, 27.

EARLY CAREER AWARD - ARI PALCZEWSKI - OR HEN - MARTHA CONSTANTINOU
Ari Palczewski of the Accelerator Division, User Or Hen of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and User Martha Constantinou of Temple University have been awarded a 2019 Office of Science Early Career Research Program award. Palczewski is developing the surface engineering basis for next-generation superconducting radiofrequency accelerators. Hen is studying short-range correlations in nuclei using electro-induced nucleon-knockout reactions at high momentum-transfer. Constantinou is studying electron-ion collider from lattice quantum chromodynamics.
