SCHEDULED ACCELERATOR DOWN UNDERWAY
CEBAF ran smoothly through the end of the run on Sept. 9, with beam delivery to Hall A and Hall B. Accelerator reliability was 90% and 96% for the last two weeks of the run, respectively, continuing the upward trend of average reliability since the start of the run in June. The planned Wien flip on Sept. 6 was canceled to maximize experiment data taking for both halls. The shutdown work is underway, with some activities slightly ahead of schedule. The gun upgrades are nearly complete. The cryomodule move preparations (in support of 11.6 GeV running) start this week. Work is going well.

HALL B - HEAVY PHOTON SEARCH UPDATE
The Heavy Photon Search experiment in Hall B, E12-11-006, completed its first physics run using a 4.56 GeV electron beam and the upgraded HPS detector. The experiment is searching for a new heavy vector boson that is well motivated, and viable force particle that would mediate interactions with hidden sector dark matter. If heavy photons exist, they will mix with the ordinary photon through kinetic mixing. This mixing will induce a weak coupling between heavy photons and electrons, εe, where e is the electron charge and ε ≤ 10−2. With the data collected in this run, HPS will explore a significant new region of mass, 80 MeV to 200 MeV, and couplings, 10−10 < ε2 < 10−8. In this mass/coupling regime, heavy photons travel detectable distances before decaying, providing the telltale signature of a displaced vertex for the detected e+e- pairs.

COLLINEAR FACTORIZATION IN DIHADRON PRODUCTION FROM ELECTRON-POSITRON COLLISIONS
A new theoretical analysis<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__jlab.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3D1de9c43e6d5e45ff0ecd664cd-26id-3Dc97ffde4ec-26e-3D87d1b04d9e&d=DwMFaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=C_LzxEY5_0ExOWN0V4AA_Q&m=cjqtDE1mFuvpqZY7wnHmiOXWrU7Tg5jfvH38JvoYmM8&s=6rrP5QhbRsbJ-ikHdVkr-Ly7iabvUaNE_AMGS5lTnaA&e=> uses collinear factorization to compute the unpolarized cross section for dihadron production in electron-positron annihilation, in the case where the hadrons have large transverse momentum and are far from the back-to-back configuration. The results are compared with those using standard transverse momentum dependent factorization, and some tension is found between the two at intermediate transverse momenta when the center-of-mass energy is not very large. The results suggest that e+e- measurements would be ideal for exploring this tension.

WEEKEND ROAD WORK LIMITS ACCESS TO SSC
This weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, road repairs will be done in areas adjacent to the Support Service Center (Bldg. 28). During this time, access to the SSC will be limited to the south entrance, available via the rear parking lot. Those working in the Applied Research Center will need to access and leave using Lawrence Road. All others can use either Rattley Road or Lawrence Drive to enter or leave the lab. For more information, see the full memo<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__jlab.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3D1de9c43e6d5e45ff0ecd664cd-26id-3Dc298e57056-26e-3D87d1b04d9e&d=DwMFaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=C_LzxEY5_0ExOWN0V4AA_Q&m=cjqtDE1mFuvpqZY7wnHmiOXWrU7Tg5jfvH38JvoYmM8&s=DjONy0V8gWzY6SqFL6D3kMXBgmOfNQrjNC9rtd4CZho&e=>.

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING AT WORK
At work, “housekeeping” is more than visibly clean floors and surfaces. According to the National Safety Council, good housekeeping habits help prevent injuries, improve productivity and increase morale. In the past few decades, good housekeeping practices have extended from traditional office space into industrial workspace, including factories, warehouses and manufacturing plants. All of these present special challenges, such as hazardous/flammable material accumulation, combustible dust, and unstable stacking, clutter and lighting. Experts agree that all workplace safety programs should incorporate housekeeping, and every worker should play a part.

DATE CHANGE FOR THE SAFE ZONE PROJECT - SEPT. 30
The Safe Zone Project is a workshop designed to provide clarity, answer questions and offer resources for those looking to increase their knowledge of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning+ community. Facilitated by Diversity & Inclusion Council members, the course is intended to be a safe space to learn and discuss LGBTQ+ topics. The voluntary course takes place Monday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in ESH&Q (Bldg. 52) room 9. To register, click here. For questions, contact Kelly Allmon<mailto:allmon at jlab.org> at x7136.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL REFRESHERS
With performance appraisal time approaching, Human Resources is offering an optional refresher of the training course, MGT502 - Performance Management at JLab - A Roadmap to Success!. This course provides an explanation of the steps, forms and methodology of the annual performance appraisal program. To register for one of the three sessions offered, click here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__jlab.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3D1de9c43e6d5e45ff0ecd664cd-26id-3Df41ca33222-26e-3D87d1b04d9e&d=DwMFaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=C_LzxEY5_0ExOWN0V4AA_Q&m=cjqtDE1mFuvpqZY7wnHmiOXWrU7Tg5jfvH38JvoYmM8&s=oCbwkayZO3QVInm94JQoz-j1jljtN_dNHiRJVUKAljE&e=>.

HARNESSING THE POWER OF ACCELERATORS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
Two Jefferson Lab accelerator scientists have received funding to design accelerators that could be used for wastewater treatment, flue-gas cleanup and beyond. Fay Hannon and Gianluigi “Gigi” Ciovati are among 13 scientists nationwide who have been awarded support from the Research Opportunities in Accelerator Stewardship program, through which the DOE supports projects of these stewards of accelerator research for three years.
