HALL B GROUP LEADER
It is with great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Patrick Carsten Achenbach as our new Jefferson Lab Hall B Leader. Patrick is anticipated to begin his duties on August 1st. Patrick's appointment follows a wide and international search. Interest in the Hall B leader position came from both within the international CLAS12 collaboration and beyond.
Patrick is presently Full Professor in Experimental Physics at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz. He has broad experience in a variety of experiments: he worked on the H1 (DESY) inclusive deep inelastic scattering experiment, was a member of the A2 and TAPS Collaborations at MAMI to study nucleon resonances and excitations, and pion/eta photoproduction, aas well as the A4 Collaborations at MAMI to carry out elastic electron scattering, parity violation and strangeness form factor experiments. Beyond particle/hadron physics he has also been involved in cosmic ray and atmospheric neutrino physics. Presently, he is member of the A1 Collaboration in Mainz and the PANDA collaboration at FAIR. He has many years in the A1 Collaboration looking at strangeness production, hadron spectroscopy, and hypernuclei. He is also involved in Light dark matter searches & beam dump experiment in MESA (MAMI).
Patrick has a strong background in operation of experiments and experimental equipment, having held leadership roles at electron accelerator and spectrometer facilities. Moreover, Patrick has served in on the JPARC Program Advisory Committee, numerous Executive & Collaboration Boards, and Steering and Collaboration Management Committees.
I would like to take the opportunity here to profoundly thank the Search Committee, and also Stepan Stepanyan for his excellent work acting as Hall B Group Leader during the search. Stepan will continue in his role as Deputy Hall B Leader, ensuring a smooth and successful transition period.
Regards,
Thia Keppel
