HALL A/C GROUP LEADER

It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Jones as the new Jefferson Lab Hall A/C Leader. Mark has been serving as the acting Hall Leader for nearly a year now. His appointment follows a wide and international search where interest for the position included members from within the Halls A and C collaborations and also beyond the Jefferson Lab user community. Mark has a strong background in the operation of Jefferson Lab experiments, equipment, and analysis, having taken leadership roles in many successful efforts. Perhaps most notably, Mark has been a major force behind the recoil polarization based measurements of the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio that have mapped a surprising difference as compared to the Rosenbluth technique for measuring the same quantity. These results are the most cited Jefferson Lab publications, and led to Mark's leadership as Project Manager for the successful construction of the Super Bigbite Spectrometer equipment and comprehensive nucleon form factor program currently running in Hall A.

Mark is presently a Senior Staff Scientist at Jefferson Lab, and brings broad and deep experience to the Hall Leader role. As examples, he started working on first Hall A experiments at JLab in the 1990s as a postdoc at the College of William and Mary where he supervised the construction, installation and operation of the front chambers of the focal plane polarimeter. For the 12 GeV upgrade as a Staff Scientist in Hall C, he managed the update of the data analysis software from the aging Fortran to a C++ code based on the framework of the Hall A analyzer. He led the commissioning of the new Super High Momentum Spectrometer (SHMS). In the 12 GeV era, he has served as Co-Spokesperson for several first run, high profile experiments.

I would like to take this opportunity to profoundly thank both the Search Committee, and also Mark for his excellent service as the Acting Hall A/C Leader.

Regards,

Cynthia Keppel

Associate Director for Experimental Physics
