This program is supported by the Initiatives Fund Program, a JSA commitment, to
support programs, initiatives, and activities that further the scientific outreach, promote
the science, education and technology of Jefferson Lab and benefit the Lab’s extended
user community in ways that complement the Lab’s basic and applied research missions.

Todd Satogata
Abstract:
Accelerator physics is the study and application of the principles
governing charged particle beam acceleration, control, and dynamics.
It is fundamentally multidisciplinary, at the intersection of
relativity, electrodynamics, material science, accelerator technology,
and AI/ML applications.
CASA is the main home of Ph.D. accelerator physicists at Jefferson Lab
Our core purpose is to develop pioneering knowledge about advanced
accelerator and beam physics, with an emphasis on CEBAF and its
upgrades, and accelerator collaborations including the Electron-Ion
Collider (EIC). CASA core competencies includes recirculating linac
and energy-recovery linac (ERL) design, operations, and upgrades;
computational accelerator physics (including AI and machine learning),
and advanced diagnostics R&D. This presentation is an introduction to
CASA and its present activities.
