Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to share some information with you, our scientific user community, in the case that a prolonged government shutdown requires Jefferson Lab to temporarily pause operations.
As of today, Congress has not yet appropriated funds for fiscal year 2026, which began on October 1. The lab is working on steps to mitigate the impact of the ongoing government shutdown. One of our goals is to ensure that you have the details you need to plan accordingly should a shutdown of lab operations occur.
For now, please be highly circumspect in planning for travel, meetings, and visits to the laboratory. Please coordinate with your primary Jefferson Lab contact to discuss any such plans, or other activities that could be affected by a possible shutdown.
Details are currently evolving as we continue to work to ensure the safe and secure operations of the lab, while minimizing impact on our users and workforce during an extended lapse in funding. We are committed to sharing our plans with you when they are finalized.
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to Jefferson Lab’s mission.
With best regards,
Thia
