SUBJECT: Update on Federal Government Shutdown Planning Activities

Colleagues,

We are continuing to work through options to extend the time we are able to remain in full operations prior to taking the step of furloughing staff. This week, we have been working through multiple scenarios and sincerely appreciate DOE’s partnership.

To extend operations through the full work week of Oct. 20-24, the lab will observe the day after Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in lieu of Friday, Nov. 28. This means the lab will be closed, staff should not work unless specifically approved by their division leader, and they should enter time on their timesheets as holiday hours.

We recognize there are many questions. We continue to develop a comprehensive set of frequently asked questions based on evolving scenarios, which we plan to share next week.

As Director Jens Dilling detailed in the Oct. 10 all-staff meeting, we are committed to the priorities of safety, the wellbeing of our people, and mission delivery.
