Postdoc Position at Hampton University
The Experimental Nuclear Physics Group at Hampton University is
hiring a postdoctoral researcher at the soonest possible date.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Experimental Nuclear
Physics Group at Hampton University with four faculty members, three
postdoctoral researchers and seven graduate students. He or she will
be expected to work on the recently approved OLYMPUS experiment at
DESY, Hamburg, Germany. OLYMPUS aims to precisely measure the effect
of multiple photon exchange in elastic lepton-proton scattering.
The group's responsibility is to provide tracking telescopes for
luminosity monitoring based on GEM technology, to be built and tested
at Hampton University, in collaboration with MIT.
Upon completion of the instrument, extended presence at DESY would be
expected from the candidate in 2011 and 2012 to prepare, commission
and run the experiment.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in physics and will be prepared
toward future academic positions. Some experience in tracking
detector construction, experiment commissioning, readout electronics
and analysis would be desired but is not mandatory.
The appointment is initially for a term of two years with the
possibility of reappointment to a third year (depending on
performance and availability of funds). Women and minority
candidates are strongly urged to apply.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a list of publications.
In addition, the applicant should have three letters of reference sent to:
Prof. Michael Kohl, Physics Department, OLIN Building,
Hampton University, Hampton, VA 23668.
e-mail: kohlm at jlab.org.
Hampton University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
