Postdoctoral Research Associate*

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites 
applications for a
postdoctoral Research Associate position in the field of experimental 
intermediate energy
nuclear physics. Our group is playing a leading role in studies of 
deuteron photodisintegration
and Compton scattering at the High Intensity Gamma Source (HIGS) located 
on the campus
of Duke University as well as in the development of the polarized target 
required for this research.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop his/her own new 
ideas for experiments.
The successful candidate will be expected to supervise both graduate and 
undergraduate students.
Our group currently consists of two faculty members, one research 
scientist, two research associates,
and 3 graduate students. The successful candidate will be located at 
either UVA or HIGS.

This is a one year appointment, however appointment may be renewed for 
an additional two,
one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory 
performance.
Candidates are required to have a PhD in experimental nuclear or 
particle physics by the
appointment start date. Experience in photonuclear physics and polarized 
targets would be an asset.
Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills.
