The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites
applicants for a Research Scientist position to work on projects that
are ultimately aimed at electron scattering experiments at JLab. Our
group has a leading role in the JLab Super Bigbite program, which
include measurements of the elastic nucleon form factors as well as
studies single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic
scattering. Our group is also involved in parity-violation experiments,
including PREX-II, CREX, and the proposed MOLLER experiment. A
particular focus of our group are experiments involving the scattering
of polarized or unpolarized electrons from polarized He-3 targets, as
well as the advancement of the polarized-target technology. Another
focus of our group is the control of helicity-correlated systematic
effects in parity-violation experiments that are related to the
polarized electron source. The successful candidate must have a PhD in
closely related physics and several years of postdoctoral experience.
Experience working with lasers is highly desirable. Direct experience
with spin-exchange optical pumping, the technique we employ to polarize
the He-3 in our targets, would also be viewed quite positively.

The successful candidate will be stationed at UVa, but must be willing
to travel regularly to Thomas Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) located in
Newport News, Virginia.

To apply, please submit a candidate profile on-line through Jobs at UVA
(https://jobs.virginia.edu) and electronically attach the following: a
cover letter, curriculum vitae and the contact information for three
professional references; search on posting number 0612280.

Review of applications will begin on July 6, 2013; however, the position
will remain open until filled.
