Assistant Professor in Experimental Subatomic Physics

University of Regina

The Department of Physics at the University of Regina invites applications for a
tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in experimental
subatomic physics, starting July 1, 2017.

The Department is specifically looking for candidates who will reinforce our
strong research programs in experimental subatomic physics at Jefferson Lab
(JLab) and T2K. The Department also has a chair in Nuclear Imaging funded by
the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation. The University has
recently become a full member of the TRIUMF Consortium, is the only
international member of SURA, and is a founding member of the Canadian Institute
of Nuclear Physics. The Regina group has a strong history of detector
construction, including the Barrel Calorimeter in JLab-Hall D, the Heavy Gas
Cherenkov detector in JLab-Hall C, and the T2K Fine Grained Detector. Together
with JLab, we are building Canada's first plant PET imager, and we have recently
received funds for the prototyping of the Heavy Gas Cherenkov detector for SoLID
in JLab-Hall A. We are also members of the Electron Ion Collider user group.
For more information on our research program leadership, please see
http://www.uregina.ca/science/physics/research/.

The successful candidate is expected to establish both a vigorous externally
funded research program and excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and
graduate levels. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in experimental subatomic physics
(nuclear and/or particle physics) with postdoctoral research experience and a
demonstrated capacity for independent research. Preference will be given to
candidates who strengthen and complement existing research efforts of the
Department. Candidates must apply online at https://urcareers.uregina.ca, and
submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a description of their most
significant research contributions, a statement of research plans, and a
statement of teaching interests. Candidates will be prompted to submit online
the names and email addresses of three professional references who will be
contacted with instructions for how to submit a letter of reference. Review of
applications will begin on December 12, 2016 and will continue until the
position is filled. Inquiries may be addressed to the chair of the search
committee, Garth Huber, by email (huberg at uregina.ca).

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and
permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. The University of Regina
is committed to an inclusive workplace that reflects the richness of the
community that we serve. The University welcomes applications from all qualified
individuals, including individuals within the University's employment equity
categories of women, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities,
aboriginal persons, individuals of diverse gender and sexual orientation and all
groups protected by the Human Rights Code.
