POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Fermilab-based Project)
The Medium Energy Physics Group at Mississippi State University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. The group's
research interests include the study of
sea quark distributions, the EMC effect, and parton energy loss with the
Drell-Yan experiment at Fermilab. The group has recently joined the
polarized Drell-Yan, E1039, experiment at Fermilab to study the poorly
known gluon transverse momentum distributions using J/Psiproduction.
In addition the group also has a very active program in studies of
nucleon structure, hadronic physics and fundamental symmetries at
Jefferson Lab, such as the study of color propagation andfragmentation
process, the search for the onset of color transparency, and precision
measurement of charge symmetry violation in quark distributions.
We are looking for candidates who will help lead our effort on
developing an advanced graphics processing unit (_GPU_) based
multi-threaded framework for the online data reconstruction and
monitoring, the commissioning and maintenance of the tracking chambers,
and the running of the E1039 experiment. The candidate could be
stationed at Fermilab depending on the running schedule and needs of E1039.
A Ph.D in experimental nuclear or particle physics or related fields is
required. Preference will be given to candidates with GPU-based
programming knowledge and experience. The initial appointment is for one
year, and can start as early as October 1, 2018. The appointment can be
extended for a maximum of two additional years, based on mutual
satisfaction and available fund.
Screening of applications will begin immediately and will continue until
the position is filled. Applications' documents including a curriculum
vita, brief statement describing research interests and work experience
and three recommendation letters should be sent electronically to: Prof.
Lamiaa El Fassi (le334 at msstate.edu <mailto:le334 at msstate.edu>).
Mississippi State University actively solicits applications from
minorities, women, and people with disabilities and is an EEO/AA employer.
