Visiting Instructor in Physics
University of Richmond
The Department of Physics at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time visiting instructor position in Physics to begin August 2020. This is a non-tenure track appointment, annually renewable for up to two years after the initial year, contingent upon performance, budget, and continued need. Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree; a Ph.D. in physics or a related field is preferred. The instructor will teach two sections per semester (12 contact hours per week or the equivalent of 8 units per year) of introductory physics courses for both science and non-science majors, in an active-learning workshop format.
The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students “to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society.”
The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see https://physics.richmond.edu.
Applicants should apply by going to https://richmond.csod.com/ats/careersite/JobDetails.aspx?site=1&id=2038 and submitting a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and teaching statement. The teaching statement should articulate the candidate’s teaching philosophy, interests, and future professional development goals as well as involvement in and commitment to inclusive pedagogy. In addition, please include copies of academic transcripts and the names of three references who will receive an email asking them to submit their reference letters to the University's Human Resources department at URHR at richmond.edu. Review of applications will commence on July 27, 2020 and continue until the position is filled. Questions about the position should be addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Ted Bunn (ebunn at richmond.edu).
