Hi Tyler,

Thanks! Two quick thoughts:


  1.  I would order a maximum of 24 pieces with a 1-week lead time - to have extra just in case.
  2.  In all six new boxes, the padding at the bottom will need to be slightly elevated compared to the original 2018 boxes, maybe by adding a  small piece of wood under the cushion. We can consult it with Matt on Monday.
You can see the reason in the drawing and photos below. On one side the barbox has wedges that extend the box thickness and a frame at the end, around a window. In the last photo, you can see we had a bid lower padding for this section. However,  6 of 8 boxes that we will transport this time are upside down, with the higher part of the wedge section sticking down.
  3.  Note that the location and spaces between padding foam were aligned to the metal frames we attached to the barboxes to move them from storage into the wooden crate

Hi Greg,

Thank you for sending the info about the foam for the EIC DIRC shipping crates.

To avoid using spray glue, we'll use heavy-duty, double-sided tape to affix the foam to the wood. It should work just as well without as much mess.

Looking at what McMaster-Carr offers and the quantity we'd need, I think our best option would be to get 21- 48" x 54" sheets and cut them to size.
The numbers I used to calculate this are below.

McMaster-Carr's website estimates that everything we'd need would be delivered in about one week. (Side note to take into consideration: if we need more than 24 sheets, the lead time jumps to 4-5 weeks).

I got some more information from our friends in Indiana:

-I believe this is what we used in 2018.  This is available in different thicknesses, and I do believe there are two different sizes used depending on what gap we were trying to fill.  Seems that I adhered these pieces to the crates using a spray-type contact adhesive.



  1.  Most of the gas system was built using push-to-connect fittings and tubing, right out of the McMaster-Carr catalog:
