Thanks, Brian. I just sent that as an example. I can't purchase from Amazon anyway 🙂. I will look for a similar UL approved product.

The main issue with those automotive ones is that they usually max out at 32 VDC and especially stuff from Amazon probably doesn't have any kind of rating on it.

Hi Marc,
I had considered current overload to be sufficiently taken care of by the unit which has built-in protections for overcurrent(auto-restart upon removal of overcurrent condition), overvoltage (requires restart) and overtemperature (requires restart). There is further protection provided by the AC mains connections which have 20A breakers. Two power supplies will be plugged into a single 20A breaker at 120VAC. Each power supply typically uses 7A but during startup can surge well above that. We have used 20A breaker bars during testing and have not found them to trip at load, so I expect this load to be fine.
In principle I could swap out simple terminal blocks in the diagram with fused ones like this, for example, if there is sufficient concern.

Don,

Have you consider over-current protection for the heater supply channels? Maybe fuse each line at 15 to 20 A. The supplies are limited to 12.5 and they have built-in overprotection...but fuses are very effective.

The intention would be to combine the power supply disconnect, and relay box with current readback into one chassis. There is currently a box with a barrier block which extends the heater power cables so the relay box can be inside the bunker.

Is the power supply output current something that you are expecting to keep in the full system?

See slide 3 (the yellow wires to the analog input) from this talk Marc previously gave: https://www.jlab.org/sites/default/files/dsg/talks/hall-a/ECAL%20Heater%20Controls%20and%20Instrumentation_post.pdf

Currently there are three separate enclosures/boxes (that house the distribution, current monitoring, and relays). The intention is for all of those to be combined into a single box.

Hi Marc and Brian,
I have attached a diagram of the electronics for the power and control of the ECal heater system. I would like to submit it to Electrical Safety for comments/approval. To your knowledge is this accurate and sufficiently complete?
