[Dsg-halla_ecal] Controls installation in Hall A

Hi Don,

Here is the latest update.

  * The controls equipment was lowered into the bunker and tested ok
  * My laptop has connectivity to the Hall A development wifi subnet, which improves workflow while installing/troubleshooting
  * I added the heater extension cable box so we could lower the relay box with it's current sensors to the shielding hut
     * The supermodule channels are ok
     * There is a problem with the aluminum side channels, they are drawing current as if both left and right are connected
     * There seems to be an issue in the power supply disconnect chassis or it's connection to the cRIO (control voltage cable)

We will troubleshoot the system with you the next time the hall is open for a significant period of time (at least 4 to 6 hours).

Since there is still work to do, I disconnected all the heater power supplies. The cRIO is still running, so when we get a computer on the Hall A development subnet up and running we can check on it to see how it is doing during beam.

I will set up a meeting next week so we can discuss the progress.

Marc

Hi Don,

Here is the current update. I have completed the following:

  1. Verified the controls are working with a low temperature test. All 5 control channels are operating as expected.
  2. Tested the Omega and power kill switch.
  3. Added the 4 thermocouples to the monitoring. Now all 6 supermodule have a readback of the crystal surface.
     * They are connected in the order we discussed in the hall.

Whats left to do:

  1. Lower the controls into the bunker and a quick check to see its all still connected.
  2. I have verified that I can monitor the system while on the hall A development subnet. But we still don't have a computer on the subnet. So we cannot remotely monitor from off-site...We have two CC requests in for support on this.
  3. I need to move the relay box down in the bunker from the top of the teststand. This is less critical, but if we don't move it the hall effect sensors may not survive the beam. These are not required for the system to run, but it is more information.

I'll be in early to work on items 1 and 3. You can close up the teststand.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Mark, Bogdan, and Don,

The ECAL heater controls equipment for the six-supermodule teststand has been moved to Hall A.

A network cable has been connected to the cRIO and I have verified that I can remotely ping it. I still need to connect remotely from the DSG hall A computer to make sure I can monitor and control the system remotely. Meanwhile, I have connected locally in order to continue the installation.

I have verified that the controls software is reading the connected temperature sensors used to control the five power supplies.

In addition to installing the equipment, I have installed a local power kill button which is part of the safety controls. When pressed it will remove coil power from the relays in the relay box, which will open the contacts which supply power to all heaters. The power kill button is in series with the Omega process controller. The power kill button will lock in the safe position when pressed and has to be rotated to return to the unpressed position.

Monday I will continue the installation. The following tasks still need to be completed.

  1. Connect the control voltage cable from the cRIO to the power supply disconnect box and test
  2. Test the safety controls
  3. Perform a low temperature system test
  4. Lower system into the radiation bunker

After the system has been fully tested I will set a meeting to go over the test setup.

Marc
