The ECAL test stand started cooling down due to a issue with the cRIO expansion module in the hall on 04/30 around 9pm. The expansion module lost data connection to the main controls cRIO in the Hall A counting house.
Due to the connectivity loss, the safety system's watchdog relay could no longer sense the toggle of the system's heartbeat signal and opened the heater power relay contact, causing the system to cool down due to this safety feature.
I noticed the issue around 3:30 pm and went to the hall to investigate the issue. The Omega process controller was not tripped (no issue) and the temperature was reading ~41 degrees C, and the Power Kill switch had not been pushed.
Both cRIOs appeared to be operating (main in counting house and expansion chassis in the hall), and I was able to ping both. However, the expansion chassis was not online in National Instruments Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
I entered the hall and manually rebooted the expansion chassis and noted that it was back online in MAX. The controls software was restarted and the system started to heat to the set points.
ECAL Detector staff should contact me through the mailing list if there is an issue with the controls and monitoring.
