[Dsg-hallb_magnets] Hall B magnet interlock and instrumentation checkouts complete

Brain,
The set value has remained constant at 1.5 for many years. I would advise to change the range to 1.05 to 2.0. But it could be tighter to help check for operation in a "normal range" then I'd say 1.25 to 1.75.

Is there a known value that is read back when the the transducer or other component in the read-back chain fails?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

This is separate/independent of the alarm values.

The script is used to speed up the instrumentation checkout and simply checks if a sensor is within a range and marks it as pass or fail. Initially every sensor was manually checked on the CSS screen and the value written on paper, but this was extremely time consuming. That was replaced with taking screenshots of the various screens with sensors, but then it was hard to actually see if the sensors were good or bad. This is the current implementation of the instrumentation checkout.

The values used for the range were provided by you years ago and might be different now. I didn't want to change the script to make something a pass if it's actually iffy, also I'm not sure if we bump up the upper limit should the lower follow or do we just increase the upper? For example, since the range for PT8554 is 1-1.5 now we could either do 1-2 or 1.25-1.75 for the limits.

Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,
What type of limits are you talking about. Alarm limits or something else?

Thanks
Dave

Should I change the limits for that PT from something other than 1-1.5 then?

Hi Tyler,
1.5 is the setpoint for control so it will read that most of the time.

Ruben, Dave,

The "failure" for PT8554 is that the script expects the sensor's reading to be between 1 atma and 1.5 atma. Since the value the script saw for PT8554 was 1.5 atma, it put the status as "FAIL".

Hi Tyler,

Could you comment on Dave's question below?

Cheers

Hi All,
It is correct that TD8522TR has been very unreliable in the past, especially when below 10K. During warm up and cooldown it seems to work better. It is also true that it is not used for control so running without it is not a big deal.

As far as PT8554, that is another story. This sensor is the input parameter for the LN2 reservoir back pressure control. It seems to be working fine at least now when I looked.

What was the indication that caused it to be "failed" during the checkout?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

See elog below from the magnet pre-check today - I believe neither the temp or press sensor is being used to control anything?

Probir,

I think we did at one time try swapping leads to activate the spare TD8522TR but saw the same behavior?

Hello

Pablo, Probir, and I have completed the pre-power-up interlock and instrumentation checkouts for the Hall B Solenoid and Torus. The checkout results have been posted to the logbooks at the links below.
